Homemade Burgers

Say goodbye to store-bought burgers — they’re easier than you might expect to make at home!

The best part? Your measurements don’t need to be exact to have a delicious result, so feel free to throw things in by the scoop or dollop.

But whatever you do, don’t forget the incredible sauce! Our favourite burger condiments are our Kalamata Tapenade, Chili Sauce, and Saltspring Sauce.

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

1 egg

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp dijon mustard

Freshly-ground pepper

2 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 small onion (or half a large onion), finely chopped

To assemble:

Fire up the grill to medium heat.

Place all the ingredients in a bowl, and stir together. Be careful not to over-mix or handle too much — the result will be tougher meat. Mix until they’re just combined!

Gently shape the meat into patties about 1.5 inches thick.

Place them on the grill and leave them, undisturbed, for five minutes. Flip and leave them for another five minutes, or until a thermometer reads 160° internally. If you’d like, place thick slices of sharp cheddar cheese on top of the burgers after you flip them.

Pop them into crusty, warm kaiser buns — you can place these on the grill for a moment or two.

Top with your favourite toppings (butter lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles!) and your sauce of choice.
